CITY & GUILDS

Introduction: -

A Joint initiative has been taken by Pravara Rural Education Society with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), New Delhi and City & Guilds, England, for providing opportunity to dropout students to undergo vocational training. Currently only 5 % of the country’s labour force in the age group of 20-24 years category have undergone formal vocational training, compared to 28 % in Mexico, 60 to 80 % in most industrialized countries and 96 % in Korea. There are nearly 300 million illiterate adults in India. Out of approximately 200 million children in the age group of 6-14 years, only 120 million were in the school. Another connected issue is of school drop-out. According to India vision 2020 (Planning Commission document] unless something is done to drastically reduce drop-out rate by the year 2016, there will be approximately 500 million people in the country with less than five years schooling and another 300 million that will not have completed high school.

In order to meet the above challenges, emerging from globalization and economic liberalization, it has become important to concentrate on skill development with the labour force. To face these challenges, with joint efforts of Pravara Rural Education Society, CII and City & Guilds, England 16 courses like Motor Vehicle Engineering and Fabrication, Welding and Pipe works, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, have been started from 1st December 2004 at ITI, Loni. Beauty Therapy , Clothing course has been started at Pravara Kanya Vidya mandir, Loni, from 15th February 2005. Electronic Engineering, Basic Masonry , Metal Machining , Wood Trades , Two Wheeler Repair , Spoken English , Hospitality , Food Preparation , Applied Information Technology, Plumber, Electrical Installation have been launched from 1st November 2006 at different Institutes of Pravara Rural Education Society.
